Ruby Rush on Goulburn Cup Sets Up Potential Big Dance Tilt

At 5.30 pm on Sunday afternoon a ruby red sunset threw its light across Goulburn…making it the second time that day the same colour splash had shone bright on the tablelands after Ruby Flyer took out the Goulburn Australia Goulburn Cup.

The Brad Widdup trained gelding nailed his seventh career win thanks to a rails-hugging ride from Dylan Gibbons in the $200 000 feature. Despite being third last with 600m to travel Gibbons put patience ahead of pressure and stayed nailed to the fence, never going around a horse in defeating early pace setters The Novelist (Waterhouse -Bott) and Estadio Mestalla (Joe Pride).

The feature race win puts Ruby Flyer squarely in the frame for a tilt at the $3m Big Dance come the fourth of November. The win took his record on heavy tracks to three wins from three starts…meaning his connections are some of the very few praying for more rain in Sydney this spring!

Goulburn trainers also shone bright on the club’s blue-ribbon race day taking out three of the first four races. The two Danni’s…Seib and Williams…’spread the love’ early with Seib’s same named galloper winning the opener and Williams’ Everlasting Stars relishing the heavy conditions to notch his second win on the bounce this preparation in Race 2.

Local Spirits Burn Deep (Neil Osborne) also saluted in one of the day’s features, the Kirks’ Bridge Farm The Guy Walter. Reigning apprentice of the year Glenn Cahill continuing his good form with a precise ride. It Is To Be (Pat Murphy / Louise Day) almost made it the four for the locals, finishing runner up in the day’s other feature The Graeme Spackman Country Magic.

Ciaron Maher won the super maiden with Precinct whilst the Annabel & Rob Archibald stable took the trouble out of travel with a winning double courtesy of Luskaire (Mollie Fitzgerald) and Socrazyinlove (Alysha Collett).

Goulburn Race Club would like to thank Goulburn Australia, Goulburn Soldiers Club and all the industry participants and patrons who supported the day.
