Goulburn Race Club’s most recent race meeting (Goulburn Cup Day) was one day shy of coinciding with the lifting of NSW regional travel restrictions for greater Sydney.
But there are no such issues with its Twinstar Racing Christmas Race meeting on Friday December 17th.
The meeting is a great stocking filler opportunity for owners, trainers and racegoers looking for a Christmas party celebration or a Southern tablelands day trip.
The feature race is the Fred Cooper Cup over a mile, with the dedicated race valued at $29 000 and now in its 12th edition.
Robyn Fife says the club is expecting its busiest day post COVID restrictions being eased.
“Traditionally our Christmas race day is a meeting with something for everyone on and off the track,” Ms Fife said.
“This year it should have more buzz about it as we are able to offer live music and booking opportunities for group Christmas parties.”
Ms Fife said the club is also expecting solid fields for the program with the program offering a bit of everything.
“Racing opportunities on the day include a Class 1 / Maiden Plate over 2100m, Class 3 (1200m) and Class 1 (1400m) openings along with maiden chances at 1200 and 1000m.”
At Goulburn’s corresponding meeting last year the Bjorn Baker trained Dynamic Impact won his maiden.
Since then the galloper has kept up the ‘stocking filler results’, winning four more races including two on the bounce this prep, saluting on both Golden Eagle and The Gong race days.
Ms Fife added that there’s plenty of symmetry about Christmas and racing this year.
“With Covid restrictions now easing it’s a sharpened opportunity for owners and racegoers to get out and about and combine festive season celebrations with a day of on track action.”
Nominations for Goulburn’s Christmas race meeting close Monday 13th December at 11.00am.
