Dubois Has Cherry Brown Slowly Ripening (Goulburn Monday)

Goulburn trainer Jean Dubois is becoming well known for a competitive strike rate with his gallopers and that trend looks a real chance of continuing with Cherry Brown at Goulburn on Monday.

The two-year- old Big Brown filly is still learning what it’s all about and will be having just her second start when she steps out at the spacious tablelands track.

Cherry Brown tackles a mile in the opening event on the card, the Doyles On The Beach Maiden Hcp and looks to have plenty of improvement to offer.

She debuted at Nowra over 1400m on a soft track and after getting shuffled back mid race, was warming up nicely in the closing stages. Her stablemate Canaletto won that race and the runner up in the event Addicted has subsequently won at Hawkesbury.

The late season filly has been brought along quietly by the Dubois stable with two well spaced trials leading up to her debut run.

Despite Cherry Brown taking on older horses at Goulburn on Monday, her trainer believes she should take plenty of benefit out of her debut run.

“Her debut run was very good. She is a small filly and is ideally suited to more of a distance race,” Dubois said.

“A firmer track will be better for her. The track was a bit soft for her last race.”

Dubois also has no qualms about stepping the filly up to a mile.

“We have no concerns at all rising in trip. She is a staying type so she needs the extra distance to shine.”

Cherry Brown is the Dubois stable’s only runner on the Goulburn card and the ever consistent Jeff Penza has been booked to ride the filly.

Local trainers again look hard to beat on the program with 10 acceptors across seven races. The strong Danny Williams stable leads the way with five of those.

The Goulburn track is currently rated a Good 3 with fine weather forecast right through to Monday’s race meeting and the first race scheduled for 12.35pm.
