Lauren’s Galloper Finding the ‘Fast Lane’ Early (Goulburn Friday)
May 28, 2026
The utopian ‘how to train a racehorse’ playbook goes something like this: Step 1 – Buy a yearling, Step 2 – Break horse in, Step 3 – Horse trials well, Step 4 -Horse wins first two races. If only it was that simple!
But touch wood, for Moruya based trainer Lauren Davies and early learner Olington Lane, that’s how its playing out.
“He’s proving to be a nice little horse and he’s family owned,” Davies offered.
Olington Lane ($3.10 favourite with TAB) heads to Goulburn on Friday looking to extend his winning streak to three for Davies (trainer and part owner) who couldn’t be more pleased with his early development.
“We picked him out from an online auction, broke him in and after his first trial we knew he still needed a bit more time so sent him for a spell.”
Fast forward almost six months and the time off paid big dividends. He delivered a buzz result for connections with a debut win at the Sapphire Coast in March then dug deep in a rinse repeat job at Goulburn’s most recent meeting three weeks back.
“He’s still so green, still learning his craft and what to do, still very playful as well,” Davies said.
Davies also of the opinion his attitude off the track has helped deliver results on it after two come from behind victories.
“If you watched his trackwork you’d say he’s the laziest horse you’ll ever ride, but he’s got a real relaxed personality which is making him a nice racehorse.”
The horse has also proved a lengthy float trip poses no problems despite still being on his ‘Raceday L’s.’
“He’s a very relaxed traveller and has done a lot of that since we first purchased him.”
Olington Lane seeks out an extra furlong and a competitive field at Goulburn on Friday in Race 8, The Aureum Finance Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400m). Davies’ relaxed approach mirroring that of the horse since his last win.
“I think he’ll cope with it. He had a quiet week after his latest run at Goulburn, a bit of time in the paddock, been on the treadmill and had a couple of nice gallops in the past week.”
The in-form Pierre Boudvillain retains the ride on Olington Lane as part of a strong six brace hand on the day.
Raceday partners for Friday’s meeting at Goulburn include Goulburn Australia, Goulpro, Jewel Builders, Aaron Grant Electrical, RJ Sydney Craig, Kirk’s Bridge Farm, Aureum Finance and tab.com.au.
Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Heavy 9 with the opening race set to go at 11.55am.
