Regular Goulburn visitor Anthony Warren floats Superior Style back to the tablelands track on Monday looking to frank her smart debut win at the same venue just over a fortnight ago.

Fully aware of racing’s ‘second up syndrome’ Warren says you never know but the signs since her ‘winning reveal’ have been promising.

“It’s always a bit harder second up but her work’s been really strong since that win and she’s a very athletic horse,” Warren shared.

It’s a new racing season but Warren’s hoping for the same result for the daughter of Exceed and Excel.

“I think she’s definitely a horse that’s still got a lot of improvement to come. She was still quite green that day but managed to get it done”.

‘Get it done’ is code for a polished jump and run victory that came courtesy of a good gate and a partnership with the in-form Robyn Freeman who closed out the final week of the 2025/26 season with a winning treble.

Superior Style ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds) tackles Race 7, The Markey Saddlery Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1100m and it could be a case of lightning striking twice with the filly turned mare drawing the same gate (3) over the same trip.

Warren’s association with the upside type has a touch of fate about it too, having got to know her before she graduated to race day.

“I was involved in her pre-training before she went to the Price / Kent (Jnr) yard. But after they weren’t happy with the horse, I said not to give up on her and was happy to have her come back.”

” She’s a half-sister to Aim, who was a Magic Millions Guineas winner a few years back. She is progressive and this race probably looks like it will be a similarly run contest to last start”

At the opposite end of the spectrum to Superior Style is Warren’s other key runner at Goulburn, Curly Bend ($26.00 TAB). The mare presents in Race 5, The Premier Horses Molteuno & Rileycat Class 3 Benchmark 66 Handicap over 1200m.

Race experience no issue for the mare who’s proven herself the genuine article since joining the stable back in April. Warren is genuinely upbeat about Curly Bend’s chances after she produced a strong back half to her race with keen closing sectionals in a recent class three contest at Goulburn.

“She’s been a very consistent horse for us. She was pretty stiff last start after missing the jump.”

“It was hard for her to make up enough ground to win but I think she was definitely finishing well enough to at least go close if she’d been a bit closer in the run.”

“Jean Van Overmeire gets on her now and I’d say she’s pretty well spot on for the race.”

Curly Bend has returned a win and three top three results in just six starts for Warren and shapes up as over the odds in early markets.

Warren’s team heads to Goulburn on Monday with form and presence having notched two wins and another two runner-up results from its past seven starters.

Goulburn premiership winners from the 2025/26 racing season will also be acknowledged at Monday’s meeting with the feel-good result being Dale Cole’s apprentice’ title that iced a courageous comeback from serious injury.

Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Soft 5 with dry conditions forecast for the remainder of the weekend.
