If ever there was a horse named to win a winter contest at Goulburn it’s the Scott Collings trained Brass Monkeys!

The galloper has proven to be a reliable little horse in six starts to date and quiet achiever Collings believes the son of Casino Prince is starting to prove himself a racehorse for any season.

” He raced with a number excuses at his first two starts but since then he’s been in the finish his next four runs. He’s a real trier!”, Collings offered.

“Being a half-brother to Mogo Magic he was living in his shadow a touch early on but they are two different styles of horses. He’s furnishing into a nice horse in his own right now.”

Collings’ what you see is what you get proposition finds a home track assignment on Monday in the Goulburn Australia Country Boosted Class One Handicap over 1200m. The trainer satisfied his two efforts to start the campaign suggest another win is near.

“We felt he was there to win in both runs but ran into a smart type here two runs back before conceding weight to a Class 3 horse last time. We have just changed the head gear around with him to hopefully go one better.”

A low draw (1) and senior rider (Blaike McDougall) combination back up the bona fides found in the form guide with Collings bullish about the opportunity presented.

“He does look ready to peak third up from that soft gate. The skinny field helps and Blaike will have him in a good spot from that soft draw. I do respect Matt Dale’s runners in the race as they look hard to beat.”

Brass Monkeys heads up a brace of five acceptors for Collings on Monday including an each-way play on the table with the consistent Ischyros. The galloper is third emergency in Saturday’s TAB Highway at Royal Randwick and also owns a place in Monday’s quaddie close off, The Southern Highlands Foods Benchmark 66 Handicap over 1300m.

The horse has drawn well for both options with Collings believing a shift in the stars is all that’s needed for him.

“We reckon he’s going super but has had zero luck this time in. He was lucky to stay on his feet last time at Randwick when he looked ready to run home. He’ll run well in either race. He’s our Mr. Consistent at home!”

Collings also expects his other Goulburn runners to acquit themselves well including:

Harlem Tickle (Race 4) – “She tried hard on a very testing track last start. Probably wants a mile but the country boosted maidens at home are too hard to ignore.”

Own Them (Race 5) –  Expecting improvement from him. He was excellent two runs back before an interrupted preparation going into last start where he was never on the track. ”

Collings says he’s also considering next month’s Ramornie Handicap at Grafton for a few of the stable’s star performers.

“Ticklebelly and Mogo Magic may head to Grafton for the Ramornie which is exciting for the stable. Mogo was terrific at Canterbury last week and Ticklebelly was brave in defeat at Rosehill last Saturday.”

“The Ramornie could be a nice race for them with no weight on their back and an opportunity to harness some Kosciuszko attention.”

Raceday partners for Monday’s meeting at Goulburn include RJ Sydney Craig, Goulburn Australia, Killahy Equine, Goulpro, Pure Image Signs & Designs, GG Engineering and Southern Highlands Foods.

Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Soft 7 with a dry forecast for race day and a ‘Brass Monkey’ temperature range of 3-12 degrees. Opening race goes at 12.50 pm.
