Goulburn will host its final meeting of the calendar year on Friday with the Christmas race day offering gifts all round for those keen to follow Santa’s form guide.
The big fella in red paints it this way:
“Tough time of year to be a jockey with all that festive fare on offer but I expect apprentice riders to hold their own with Dale Cole one to watch. The “Cole train” comes off a winning double at Orange earlier in the week including a heat of the rising star series,” Santa offered.
“Annabel and Rob Archibald combine with Cole on Cigar Man (Race 2 -$3 TAB) and Royal Chic (Race 6- $6.50 TAB). Both profile like a reindeer on revs!”
Cole also steers Semibreve ($5 TAB) for the Jason Coyle camp in Race 3, The Goulburn City Electrical Maiden Handicap.
“Total forget last start!” Saint Nick offered: “Expect something better under the tree this time.”
The big red suit also highlighted a new kid on the block with three rides in Deon Le Roux.
” ‘Neon Deon’ gets a Christmas gift early securing himself three rides in one meeting for the first time.”
“Valiant Bomb ($5.50 TAB) …hopefully not a reference to my sleigh..looks a progressive horse and a firm surface should give both horse and rider a genuine shot at Christmas cheer in Race 5 The Worklocker Goulburn Class 1 Handicap.”
Despite his North Pole aspect Saint Nick seems to have a handle on all the local tablelands goings on as well.
“Aura ($3.30 TAB) looks a progressive mare for team Hawkes in the same race. She made up ground last start into third on a track where not many did.”
“Not trained locally but has a strong Goulburn connection with a number of local owners excited about the mare’s prospects!”
“A kind draw and a senior rider also enhance her chances of a ‘less-naughty-more-nice’ result for followers.”
Santa also says those looking for a boost to their Christmas lights display could do worse than follow Voltage Lass ($3.20 TAB) in Race 4, The Kurrinda Bloodstock Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Hcp over 1100m.
“She looked an impressive debut winner for the Danielle Seib stable, chasing the clock throughout the 1000m.”
“Finds a tougher wish list to beat this time but in form local product Shaun Guymer takes the ride full of Christmas confidence after rolling last Sunday’s Nowra Cup win into another on Monday.”
Any final advice Mr Claus before things gets hectic next week?
“Follow anything in red and white particularly if it has a shiny nose…. easier for the judge to see!”
Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Good 4 for Friday’s meeting with the rail in the true position. Gates open at 12pm with a host of activities on track including Christmas Fashions on the Field, coffee and food vendors, full bar and tab facilities, live entertainment and free courtesy buses back to Goulburn Soldiers Club after the last.
