Goulburn trainers sit atop early markets in the first three races on their home track on Tuesday and it wouldn’t surprise if the numbers men are right.
Danielle Seib produces Xcessive Force ($2.00 TAB) in a competitive looking opener, the Goulburn Hay Supplies Country Boosted Class 1 Hcp (1200m). The daughter of Brutal was super impressive in a summer debut on her home track before fighting off all bar one in the Guineas Preview at Canberra first up. She’s slightly back in trip with a positive draw, hence the short quote.
In Race 2, the Goulburn Roofing Country Boosted Maiden Hcp (1200m) assessors have pegged Danny Williams’ debutante Obvious Icon ($2.30 TAB) as the obvious elect! The gelding was up and about in a smart trial win on his home track recently. Nick Heywood’s booking is another strong pointer.
Race 3 on the card is a test of toughest legs over 2145m for Carpet Court Goulburn, with Pat Murphy’s The Right Rein ($4.20F) and It Is To Be ($19) part of a two-pronged assault. Despite clear top weight The Right Rein should appreciate a genuine class drop from recent city contests, a much kinder draw and a two-kilo claim courtesy of Rebecca Bronett Prag.
Tablelands tutors have had a purple patch of form on the go of late, dominant in TAB Highway races (think the trifecta two weeks ago at Rosehill Gardens), qualifying horses for the $1m Evergreen Turf Country Championships final (Pat Murphy trained Sass ‘N’ Cheek) and more than holding their own here and interstate. Matt Dale capped off a strong past month of results with an interstate win on Friday night, Boston Rocks going back to back after a recent Rosehill Saturday win.
Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife believes the recent ‘purple patch’ of form is a good sign with the club’s Southern Wildcard Country Championships race day only a fortnight away.
“We’ve had some great recent results for locally trained horses and hopefully that continues on Tuesday and throughout March,” Ms Fife offered.
Ms Fife also highlighted the ‘purple’ theme as an ongoing one as the club prepares to host the Evergreen Turf Country Championships Southern Wildcard race day on Sunday 23rd March.
“This year we are partnering with our local ‘Riding Develops Abilities Goulburn’ on Southern Wildcard Race Day. We’re turning the place purple with RDA participants and volunteers joining us on track on the day with gate takings being donated to the local branch,” Ms Fife explained.
In the riding ranks regular Goulburn visitor Alysha Collett has a strong book of five rides on Tuesday whilst Tommy Berry is on a hit and run mission with Mountain Chatter ($4.40) in the quaddie closer.
Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Good 4. For all things racing in the tablelands visit www.goulburnraceclub.com.au or follow Goulburn Race Club on socials.
