Goulburn trainers will look to continue a purple patch of recent form as they head up an eight race home card tablelands style on Friday.
Goulburn mentors dominated last Saturday’s TAB Highway Handicap at Rosehill filling the first three places. Danny Williams and his predominantly purple colours won the race with Exit Fee, Danielle Seib (Bide Your Time) and Neil Osborne (Spirits Burn Deep) were hot on his heels in second and third respectively.
Seib backed that up on Sunday, securing a place in this year’s $1m Evergreen Turf Country Championships final courtesy of Cable Express’ runner up result in the SERA leg of this year’s Country Championship series. The talented gelding clawing his way to a golden ticket opportunity despite having plenty go against him in the run. The Pat Murphy trained Sass ‘N’ Cheek also gave a great sight, narrowly beaten into third.
Matt Dale also notched a winning double as part of the fun winning with Accapella Sun on Friday at Canberra then taking out the Ranvet Handicap at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday with Boston Rocks.
The locals will be out in force again on Friday on their home track with upwards of sixteen runners across eight races. Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife believes the recent ‘purple patch’ is a good sign with the club’s Southern Wildcard Country Championships race day only a month away.
“Great results last weekend for locally trained horses and hopefully that purple patch continues not only on Friday but over the next few months too as the Country Championships reaches an exciting conclusion,” Ms Fife said.
“Our Southern Wildcard qualifier is part of a showcase race day that features almost $400 000 in prizemoney across the card with the highlight being the ninth and final opportunity to secure a potential golden ticket in the $1m Country Championships final on April 5th.”
Ms Fife says calling the recent results a ‘purple patch’ is appropriate as it’s a colour that’s right on theme as the club prepares to host the Southern Wildcard on Sunday 23rd March.”
“This year we are partnering with our local ‘Riding Develops Abilities Goulburn’ on Southern Wildcard Race Day to turn our own patch purple!”
“We’re turning the place purple with RDA participants and volunteers joining us on track on the day with gate takings being donated to the local branch,” Ms Fife explained.
As for more purple patch action on Friday, the day would easily start with another local victory. Scott Collings (Lombardi Lass) and Pat Murphy (Performing Diva) look to have strong claims of a winning result in Race 1, the Aaron Grant Electrical Country Boosted Maiden Plate. Whilst the two “Dannies”…Dani Seib and Danny Williams have found the right races for Motorboat and Air Play, both resuming in Race 2 the Doyles Seafood Restaurant B58 Hcp over 900m.
Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Soft 5 for Friday’s meeting with Race 1 timed to go at 1.14pm.
