Goulburn trainer Tash Burleigh has bonnie mare Mosgold chasing first up fanfare in Sunday’s SERA Country Championships Qualifier at Nowra.
The $150 000 race is a run one-two scenario that would give Burleigh and connections a pick lock opportunity ïnto the $1m Evergreen Turf Country Championships Final at Royal Randwick on Day 1 of The Championships.
Burleigh is taking a first up is best up approach with the super consistent mare.
“Mosgold has been ticking all the boxes at home. She ran a nice trial a couple of weeks ago.”
Her trainer happy with what she’s done since and what’s in front of her come Sunday.
“She has trained on even more since then. She’sdrawn a lovely even gate and goes into the qualifier on fresh legs.”
Winona Costin takes the ride having found her best form of late booting home three winners in the past week, two of them at metropolitan level.
Burleigh has qualified horses for the Country Championships final previously and is accepting of what a race day can throw up.
“If luck doesn’t roll our way this time, then the Southern Wildcard could very well be our other ‘ticket in’ opportunity.”
With Mosgold’s second up record of 5:1-2-1 that’s a fit like a glove option if need be. The consistent mare is a proven early campaign type and the Nowra circuit has been a productive one for the galloper, having placed in all three previous runs at the venue.
Burleigh’s winning form circa 2024 has easily transitioned into 2025 with three wins from her past eight runners, Burleigh recently offering:
“We’ve had a lovely run lately, with only a small team of horses, we are pretty happy with that!”
