The recent announcement that Goulburn Race Club is set to secure funding of $9.5m from Racing NSW towards much needed infrastructure could not come at a more opportune time.
This Sunday the club will host the Southern Wildcard Country Championships race day, a chance to showcase some of the best country racing seen anywhere in NSW.
Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says this type of event is the front-line showcase of what Goulburn Race Club is capable of, but must be supported by major projects such as the recently announced additional stabling.
“The chance to acquire a large amount of additional stabling and associated amenities is a real driver of future business for our club,” Ms Fife believes.
“It’s a big step towards maintaining and enhancing Goulburn’s status as a premier country racing venue and an important economic contributor to our own regional economy long-term.”
“Whilst there may be a need to amend our land holding strategy as part of this large-scale capital work, the business development opportunities it affords us are second to none.”
Ms Fife said the club’s board feels that both the majority of current trainers and the club’s membership base are one hundred percent behind the expansion proposal.
“Our training base has given us lots of positive feedback about what this means for our club’s future direction and we only see enhanced opportunities for our members as well! Ms Fife said.
“Any community-based club should respect its past but as a race club we also very keen to build a future for our members and our training partners, something this proposal definitely commits to.”
