Goulburn hosts its final meeting for the racing season on Friday and premierships have just about been finalised with ‘’Guymer” and “Galahad’s Quest” putting the ‘GG’ in the club’s premier awards for 2019/20.
Goulburn product Shaun Guymer has a mortgage on the jockey’s title in the tablelands whilst Galahad’s Quest has the horse of the year title in the chaff bag for regular Goulburn visitor Joe Pride.
Guymer has been in smart form whenever renewing home ties this season and heads into the last Friday’s meeting with a solid book of six rides from eight races.
Top galloper gong winner Galahad’s Quest has graduated to strong winter results in city grade of late after stringing together three wins on the trot at Goulburn back in the spring.
The Pride stable is locked in a battle with Danny Williams for Goulburn’s trainer of the year. William’s should get one last crack at it though. Pride had Red Hot Chillypins in a winnable race on Friday but the option of a home track tilt proved astute when she won on Wednesday at Warwick Farm.
For those looking to find an end of season winner on the big track at Goulburn on Friday here’s a quick race by race overview.
Track a Heavy 9 (Thursday) but fine weather forecast.
Race 1 – Barlens Hire Maiden Plate 1000m
Paperscissorsrock finds an ideal target first up for the Baker stable. Placed on debut and recent trial proved she’s on track for a bustling return. Solva a big threat on debut after two healthy looking trials.
Race 2 – Kilpatrick Holdings B58 Hcp 2140m
Elder Price should box on gamely from up on the speed after two strong efforts at a mile coming into this. Up in weight but peaking fourth up. Hendo’s Magic nicely placed back in grade whilst Confidential handles all conditions and is rock hard fit.
Race 3 – National Jockeys Trust Maiden Hcp 1400m
One word answers to the question of who wins here. Alan fought on well in a handy provincial maiden last start and finds a breakthrough race. Kez has battled on well in all three heavy track runs to date. Back to home patch a big threat. The improving Attestar drawn to get every chance.
Race 4 – The Kosciuszko Maiden Plate 1600m
Tricky race but No Complaints wasn’t beaten far at this track first up and breeding suggests extra trip should suit. Misty Brook stuck on well last start and this no harder whilst Costa Zou still trying to shake the ‘Costa Who’ tag after 17 starts.
Race 5 – Goulburn Post B66 Hcp 1000m
Our Bellagio Miss is in barnstorming form and has won on a heavy track. Stick like mud to her. Heavenly Thunder always needs luck from back in the ruck but has wet track credentials. Glamour Cat back in grade the value hope.
Race 6 – Goulburn Marketplace Class 1 Hcp 1000m
Four last start winners in the field but liking Bigger Than Thorn who progressed sharply last prep in genuine contests. Has pleased the eye in recent trials. The consistent Belle Of Clonmel looks suited first up and is a proven wet track performer. Shenandoah yet to see a wet track but potential packed type.
Race 7 – Randwick & Southern Highlands Equine Centres F&M B58 Hcp 1300m
The flying Fling has won big at her past two starts in country grade. Natural speed horse who can measure up. Stablemate Rare Gem has steady form lines and a kind barrier to offset the extra weight. Lake Marion still a maiden but has claimed minor money in three of her past four at provincial level.
Race 8 – Tash Burleigh CG&E B58 Hcp 1300m
Cracking Mo makes his own luck in races and is in high spirits of late. Who’s Shout had little luck in latest offering but is well placed at this level despite another tricky draw. Hard Reality pushed home hard at this track first up. Much better drawn and senior rider steers this time.
Goulburn District Race Club would like to thank all industry participants for their support during the 2019/20 racing season.
