LONGMIRES HOPING FOR FRIDAY HIGH TEA WITH THEIR DAMES

LONGMIRES HOPING FOR FRIDAY HIGH TEA WITH THEIR DAMES

Spending time with “Isadora” and “Elsie” sounds like a scene from the current movie “Tea With The Dames”.

But for the Goulburn training team of Emma & Lucy Longmire, “Isadora” and “Elsie” are “two racing dames” the twin sisters hope will act out a winning scene or two of their own at Friday’s Goulburn meeting.

“Isadora” is Isadora Twinkle, a staying mare in good form for the Longmire stable. The mare has been putting food on the table for her owners at every start of late, notching placings in every one of her five starts this campaign.

One half of the Twin Star Racing team, Emma Longmire, says she can’t fault the mare’s efforts of late and the improvement she’s shown this time in was expected.

“She was racing well last prep, although she just needed to strengthen up. She’s had a super consistent campaign and copes with racing very well,” Ms Longmire said.

Longmire also likes how she has been around the stables since her latest effort at Newcastle six days ago.

“She thrives at home in and around the stable and we are happy with how she is going into Friday.”

Despite still looking for a maiden win, the daughter of Mosayter tackles a Benchmark 55 race and Emma Longmire is confident she finds the right type of trip now.

“She has been knocking on the door and was unlucky not to win at Bega three starts back. She looks like she has been crying out for a staying trip and she has been racing well enough to take on this type of line up.”

“We’d like some good tempo in the race as she relaxes well in the run and has a strong finish.”

The stable’s other “dame” on the day, 4YO mare “Elsie’s Magicdance” makes her debut over a short course trip. The Artie Schiller mare did all she was asked when winning her only trial to date on her home track recently.

Longmire thinks that display was a good indicator of her readiness to race.

“As a first starter there is always an unknown there but she was very professional in her trial and she keeps taking the right steps.”

The “Elsie” moniker was pulled out of a hat by the owners and named after one of the owner’s daughters, who Longmire says …”is full of spirit, just like this mare!”

The mare makes her debut at four years of age having been broken in and syndicated later than most.

The debut of Elsie’s Magicdance certainly has a ‘girl power’ feel about it with her all female training team handing the reins to Kayla Nisbet for the mare’s first start.

Longmire says it’s a good continuation for the horse after the trial hit out and can’t see any negatives at the 1000m on debut.

“Kayla got a good feel for her in the trial and secured the ride early. Go the Girls! She only needs to repeat her trial performance and she should be competitive.”

Goulburn has a chunky eight race card set down for Friday with the first race timed to go at 12.00pm. The track is currently rated a Soft 5.
