Success in racing often relies on timing and the irrigation upgrade that is almost complete at Goulburn Race Club has received a timely top up of its own with news that the club will soon be in receipt of the some of the highest grade retreated water produced anywhere.
In recent months Goulburn Mulwaree Shire Council has been significantly upgrading its Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to improve environmental outcomes and accommodate future growth. The upgrade will also enable Council to ‘turn on the tap’ and supply a superior quality end use product for the Race Club’s irrigation purposes.
Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife believes the timing of both projects is perfect and gives the race club and its users plenty of optimism for the future of the club’s racing surfaces.
“The irrigation upgrade for our course proper valued at $500 000 is almost complete. This is stage 1 of a million-dollar project fully funded by Racing NSW with Stage 2 irrigation improvements for our other tracks to follow soon”, Ms Fife said.
“Despite Goulburn being one of many regional areas that has been short on rain in recent times, our track watering needs remain secured thanks to the capital works supported by Racing NSW and the support from our local council.”
“The supply of retreated water in recent years has significantly helped us maintain our course proper to an extremely high standard.”
The imminent upgrade to the Race Club’s potable water supply is a perfectly timed “one-two” result for Goulburn Race Club. The club expects to be in receipt of a much higher grade of retreated water by August this year.
Robyn Fife says that this will have significant ‘flow on’ effects for the race club and its users.
“Our club will be one of the first sporting facilities in the Goulburn area to have access to the higher grade of retreated water.”
“This will have flow on benefits in terms of the maintenance and functioning of our irrigation systems and most importantly the quality of our racing surface.”
Marina Hollands, Acting Director of Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Utilities Division, says that the water product to be supplied to Goulburn Race Club for irrigation via the new treatment process will be of extremely high quality.
“Council are currently upgrading the current Wastewater Treatment Plant to produce high quality effluent for Goulburn,” Ms Hollands said.
“This treatment plant uses high end current technology to produce a very high standard effluent suitable for future reuse.”
Ms Fife says the contribution of Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Racing NSW is a huge bonus for the club.
“The club and its directors acknowledge the valuable input of both organisations in helping the Race Club take a huge step towards future proofing the irrigation needs of our racing surfaces.”
Goulburn District Race club will hold its next race meeting on Sunday 27th May. Nominations for the meeting close 11am Tuesday 22nd May.
