CRUNCH TIME FOR GOULBURN TRAINER’S CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

CRUNCH TIME FOR GOULBURN TRAINER’S CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

Goulburn horse trainer Danny Williams sends a trifecta of gallopers to Royal Randwick on Saturday chasing half a million dollars in prizemoney and bragging rights as to the best country trained horse in NSW.

His three charges Acquittal, Don’t Give A Damn and Pumpkin Pie will all contest the Country Championships Final as part of Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick.

Acquittal could end up being be the fairy tale result, only getting a confirmed start in the race a week ago after Williams’ other horse and winner of the Goulburn Championships Qualifier race, Kopi Luwak, had to be withdrawn after suffering a recent injury.

Williams then had to wait until the very last qualifying opportunity, last Sunday’s wildcard race at Muswellbrook, to qualify Don’t Give A Damn who failed as favourite in the Goulburn Qualifying race on February 24th.

Williams is the only trainer in the race to qualify three separate gallopers, no mean feat when you consider there have been eight qualifying races in eight different country regions in NSW (including Scone, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, Grafton, Mudgee, Port Macquarie, Dubbo and Muswellbrook).

Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says that Williams’ big time results reflects the amount of effort he has put in to the race.

“The club and its directors congratulates the Williams stable on its success in the Country Championships qualifying series to date,” Ms Fife said.

“Danny Williams is meticulous in the preparation of his horses and works extremely hard to place them to advantage.”

“Goulburn Race Club would love to see a locally trained galloper win the Country Championships final on Saturday at Royal Randwick and having three genuine hopes in the race makes that a real possibility.”

“The Country Championships qualifying race day at Goulburn was a great success this year and reflects the broad appeal of The Championships concept that Racing NSW has developed in conjunction with its country partners.”
