It was a big day out for local trainers at Goulburn Race Club on Monday with local trainers snaring three of the seven races on the program.
The Scott Collings / Keith Dryden team got the ball rolling early for team Goulburn when their gutsy mare Can She Kiss produced a strong finish in Race 2 on the program. The horse has now notched back to back wins and is fast becoming a local favourite.
Tash Burleigh then received just reward for taking the plunge with her lightly raced galloper O’so Tempting. Having done what few do by winning on debut at Moruya the 4YO gelding stepped up considerably in grade at Goulburn at just start number two but still proved too good. A promising future awaits owners and trainer alike with this one!
Goulburn’s most prodigious stable the Danny Williams yard, continued to ramp up its preparations for the upcoming Country Championships by producing promising 3YO Chewbacca to win first up from a spell. Ridden by Sydney hoop Jason Collett (who rode a winning double) the locally trained gelding scored with authority trouncing his nearest rival by 3 lengths.
Goulburn District Race Club CEO Robyn Fife said it was a pleasing day all round with one of the club’s major meetings just around the corner.
“Today’s meeting proved a high-quality prelude to the South East Racing Association’s Country Championships Qualifier that the club will host in twelve day’s time on Saturday 24th February, “ Ms Fife said.
“It’s always pleasing to see our local trainers and horses more than hold their own against some of the bigger city stables but particularly so with the Country Championships just around the corner.”
