BUBBLES DE POPULAR CHOICE AT GOULBURN’S GIRLS DAY OUT

BUBBLES DE POPULAR CHOICE AT GOULBURN’S GIRLS DAY OUT

One of Goulburn Race Club’s most popular days on the racing calendar, Girls Day Out, is on this Saturday and the “bubbles” on offer also extend to the action on the track.

The appropriately named and locally trained filly Bubbles De Beer looks ready to party in the fillies and mares maiden on the card.

Her resume throws up some handy form lines. Back in July on her home track the filly was runner up to subsequent Group Two winning filly and this week’s Victorian Oaks top four finisher Luvaluva.

Trained by Lisa Sheppard at the tablelands track, Bubbles De Beer’s early displays had the trainer thinking that there wasn’t much potential to her.

“She was purchased as an untried 3-year-old from Victoria and in her first preparation was very unimpressive. At her first trial she finished last.” Ms Sheppard said.

However, after a year in the paddock the filly has turned the corner with some very competitive efforts against genuine horses this time in.

“She has kept running into handy horses and did string together three seconds in a row, with one of those being behind Luvaluva who went on to win the Wakeful Stakes recently.”

Sheppard liked her latest effort at Nowra behind Burden of Proof almost three weeks ago.

“Bubbles De Beer was unlucky in her last start at Nowra with not much going her way that day where she finished 4th.”

Burden of Proof has since won a Benchmark 61 race on Melbourne Cup day at Kembla Grange, making the form lines look solid enough. She finds herself in a winnable race on her home track on Saturday in what appears to be an even “girls only” maiden over 1300m.

The De Beers filly has been placed twice over this middle-distance trip previously, and her trainer who recently scored a provincial win with Sylvie at Kembla Grange, heads to the races on Saturday quietly confident of further improvement.

“With some luck on her side on Saturday I think she will have a bold showing.”

Goulburn District Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says the club is expecting a bumper crowd for their Girls Day Out event with plenty of action on and off the track to keep the female (and male!) contingent entertained.

“We are expecting around 3000 people on track. Goulburn’s Girls Day Out has progressed from one of the club’s biggest days to just about the biggest event on Goulburn’s social calendar as well,” Ms Fife said.

“Apart from the seven-race matinee program kicking off at 11.30am, we also have a host of ladies’ specific events happening on track. There’s also courtesy buses to and from town, live music, NJB Racing Fashions on the Field, mocktail bar and photo booth.”

“Gates open at 10.00am and there is entertainment right through until 5.00pm including all the live racing from around the country on the club’s big screen. We also raise funds on the day for a host of local charities”

“The race meeting also represents day two of our inaugural November Cruise Series, with any trainer who has a runner throughout November entering the draw to win luxury cruise valued at $2000.”

“And of course being Girls Day Out …. there’s plenty of “bubbles” for the girls.”
