Ten to One a Winner For Williams At Goulburn

Ten to One a Winner For Williams At Goulburn

It may be one runner short of the stable’s record but whichever way you look at it Goulburn trainer Danny William holds a very strong hand on his home track on Monday with ten acceptors for the tablelands meeting.

The club’s reigning premiership winning trainer has gallopers accepted in every one of the seven races on the program.

Whilst winning every race would be a tall order, Williams believes that having so many runners at one meeting is a reflection of the good fit between the stable and the Goulburn Race Club.

“It’s an opportunity to run on our home track, which we always like, it gives our horses a good chance and is a track that plays very fair,” Mr Williams said.

Across the seven races Williams will roll out a mix of potential and proven performers with the likes of Think Like A Fox, Mister Marmalade and Arrondissement a strong part of the “thoroughbred ten”.

Foxwedge filly Think Like A Fox is on debut and looked to trial in a professional manner back in May behind her talented stablemate Acquittal. Despite striking a solid maiden test at her first start Williams is confident of a competitive showing.

“I would have liked to see her draw a little bit better but in saying that it looks an open sort of maiden. I’m sure she will get a chance and she is a nice progressive sort of horse. Hoping that she runs well,” Williams said.

In the staying test on the program, Williams jumps Mister Marmalade sharply up in trip after some close-up results in highway handicaps at his last two outings.

“Yes that would be the question mark, preferably we would have liked to have seen something a little bit shorter but once again if they run along slow enough in the race it shouldn’t be a problem. He has had one start previously at 1800 but failed, but that was lot stronger race.”

His Krupt mare Arrondissement picked up where she left off last campaign with a runner up effort at the last Goulburn meeting. Her trainer is keen to see her continue to improve this time in.

“She has come on quite a bit from the first run, which I thought going into that race was a little underdone. She comes out of a very awkward barrier and is a horse that likes to get cover. I think we will leave the magic to Jason Collett. Hopefully she can overcome the barrier and be hard to beat.”

Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says it’s great to see the local trainers so well represented at the meeting.

“It’s a real positive to see the Williams stable with such a strong team on Monday and that is also being complimented by our other local stables,” Ms Fife said.

“Trainers like the Longmire twins have a trio of runners, Tash Burleigh saddles up a new stable acquisition and John Bateman has a last start winner in Myristica engaged, to name just a few more.”

Goulburn’s seven race program kicks off at 12.45pm on Monday with the track currently just into the soft range after 5mm of welcome rain fell on Wednesday night. The latest penetrometer reading is 4.86.

The club welcomes all visiting owners, trainers and racegoers and now offers some great on track taste options through its new caterers “Feasts & Functions”.
