Despite being tagged “Backless” as her racing name, a mare trained by Matthew Dale has been showing plenty of spine with two wins and a third from just four starts to date. She tackles a class three at Goulburn on Friday on a nice upward spiral.
Backless did what few do by winning on debut in November last year at Wagga before being sent straight to the paddock. Since resuming this time in she has notched a minor placing and a win from two starts at the Goulburn track. Snowbrook, a minor place getter in Backless’ first up race has also gone on to win since.
Despite coming to the races later than most, the four-year-old mare looks to have plenty of bankable results in the offing if things continue in the same vein. Her trainer Matthew Dale is closing off the winter strongly, securing two winners and two minor placings from his last four starters.
Backless has shown a liking for the spacious Goulburn track since resuming and steps up in class after a last start win at class one level. She will also tackle a mile for the first time.
Dale will not be putting all his eggs in the one basket on Friday though, also travelling promising early earner Fun Tickets the short run up the highway to Goulburn.
Fun Tickets will be looking to take his smart backyard form away from Canberra for the first time this campaign after posting a win and two minor placings from just three starts this time in.
Goulburn’s strong Friday card consists of eight races and will also see all premiership winners from last racing season presented with their respective awards. The first race will go at 12.00pm and the track is currently rated a Soft 5 with clear weather forecast for the remainder of Thursday and Friday.
Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife believes the track should race up to it usual high standard.
“It’s great to see a total of over 100 acceptors across eight races for Friday. With an improving track and the rail in the true position all horses should be getting their chance.” Ms Fife said.
