Salesman Looking For A More Profitable Result On Home Track

Tickets gelding Salesman returns to his home track at Goulburn on Monday looking for a better deal after a last start highway handicap run at Randwick failed to go to plan.

Trained by Sarah Murray-Leslie out of the tablelands track, Salesman was glued to the rails at Randwick pretty much throughout. He then struggled to find any clear galloping room when starting to hit his straps at a crucial time in the race.

The horse had some solid from lines leading into the Randwick race, chasing home in-form gallopers Suncraze and Nic’s Vendetta at Warwick Farm the start prior.

Murray-Leslie is confident of a better deal for her charge at her home track on Monday.

“I thought he should have finished closer last start knowing the horse. He likes his home track though so we are having another go with him,” Ms Murray-Leslie said.

The trainer has no concerns about how Salesman has come through his latest run and isn’t overly concerned about attracting the handicapper’s attention.

“He had a little let up for a week between work and he is back peaking again ready for Monday.”

“The weight shouldn’t be an issue unless the track stays soft. His best performances have been on a firmer surface which is where we seem to be headed.”

“He gets a new rider in Bobby El-Issa and despite the horse having a few quirks we are expecting a bold showing.”

Salesman drops back a furlong to the 1200m and hasn’t missed a cheque in two starts at this journey. His home track stats also make for good reading with a win and two minor placings from three starts on his home patch.

Whilst the Goulburn track is currently rated a Soft 6, fine weather is forecast for the next four days making a track upgrade likely.

Goulburn’s Racing fraternity also received a timely vote of confidence from Racing NSW this week with the announcement that the club’s feature race, the Goulburn Cup, will be worth an extra $50 000 for 2017 and beyond. The $150 000 race will be run on Sunday November 26th this year.

Goulburn’s first race on Monday kicks off at 12.30pm on Monday with the rail set in the true position. Stay up to date with Goulburn Racing news by following the club on twitter @goulburnraces.
